Counter-Insurgency Operations

In July of ’61, Benjamin and Leo boarder steam boats on the Ohio River and headed toward West VA with the 2nd Kentucky Infantry. They would soon see combat – and after the war, little was done to tell the story of the brave young men who fought there in the dark mountains and valleys plagued with rebellion and treachery.. They would become the first combat troops of the Union Army and the first Union veterans to see combat, which would increase their chances of survival in the brutal campaign ahead – Shiloh, Tennessee.
